Excessive urination

During an Ironman, when it's cold, I find that I'm having to go pee on the bike VERY often.  I'd say about 5-6 times over the 180km if I'm using the EFS drink and EFS liquid shot as my calorie source…

Caffeine and Optygen HP

Does Caffeine affect the benefits of Optygen HP? If you were to take your morning dose of Optygen, then slam a cup of coffee are you limiting the benefits?

Ironman Canada Nutrition Report

After a respectable day out an Ironman Canada 2010, here's a quick recap of what went down the hatch. This race is always hot, so I had that plan dialed in...complete with sodium loading the day before. Well, they started calling for cooler weather so we (Heather and I) backed off the sodium loading, but stuck with our normal race plan for calories and hydration. It actually ended up being REALLY damn cold...but it all worked out pretty good. No stomach issues, just one slight crack in the la

Oceanside 70.3 Nutrition Report

One of my main focuses this year is to solve the stomach and gut issues I've had while racing. These were not simply limited to full distance Ironman events. I would quite often (75% of the time) get painful gut cramps within the 2 hrs after finishing a half iron as well. I… Continue

25km Trail run nutrition report

Well, this event was a bit different than a normal competition. Even so, I wanted to put my race morning breakfast to the test, and see how the gut fared with EFS product at a high intensity. All said the event took 2hrs and 1 minute. 1st place and a new course record. Average Hr for the race was 166 and a max in the mid 170's.

Morning breakfast:
Bowl of Gluten free cereal top… Continue

First impressions of First Endurance

What have I been doing without First Endurance for the last 5 years!! Wholly Crap!!! It's only been 4 days and I can without a doubt say I just had the best 4 days of training I've ever had. It's hard to say for sure what product stands out the most 'cause I used them all religiously. The week started as normal, big January training miles with normal hydrati… Continue

Trevor, I actually believe you should consider the inverse. On cold days you tend to dissipate much less heat and you sweat less. Easing into your nutrition tends to work well for many athletes; not too different than easing into each portion of the…

Very rarely, actually. Though, I don't consume nearly the amount of fluid in training as I do in a race. I usually bring a few more solid calories with me on a long training ride. Plus I'm generally heading out the door with food in my stomach. On t…

Trevor, Does this happen on cold training days? If so, what are you eating prior to the days training session?

Hi Bob, With respect to you muscle burn when first starting a ride. Perhaps it's the proximity of your ride to a hard run. I find I can always tell if I haven't recovered from a hard run effort when I set out on a ride and my legs are on fire at th…

Heather had major issues with NUUN because the second ingredient is Sorbitol. This stuff can be a major contributor to diarrhea...in fact an ER Doc we know said that people who chew too much gum with artificial sweeteners often get the runs. We both…

Heather and I are hoping to drive the RV over for a few (maybe 4) weeks before the race. Don't suppose someone may have a contact with a piece of property where we may park ourselves?

We had some wind yesterday, does that count as bad weather? I'm sure the bad weather will come, we were here last year as well and it wasn't quite so nice. Fingers crossed. Sonja, CV is indeed keen to get that camp going. Hopefully he solidifies som…

I'm just north of you and we're getting ready for some big storm so that means time on the trainer for me. Is it the same down there?
