Excessive urination

During an Ironman, when it's cold, I find that I'm having to go pee on the bike VERY often.  I'd say about 5-6 times over the 180km if I'm using the EFS drink and EFS liquid shot as my calorie…Continue

Two very different races - same nutrition plan

The past two weeks of racing have been great.  A win at Ironman 70.3 New Orleans and a solid 7th place on one of the hardest half iron courses around - Wildflower.

New Orleans was made into a duathlon once they cancelled the swim, effectively making it 15 miles of hard running, 2 to start, then…

Ironman Arizona 2011 Nutrition Report

I'm very please to have nailed everything this past weekend at Ironman Arizona.  I have been using FE products for two years now, but I FINALLY figured out an Ironman plan that really works for me.  The ticket was figuring out a way to divide my calorie intake into easy to manage, equal portions.   Consume 1 portion every hour, throw in some water...easy.  This left me super fueled for a blazing last 60km of the bike and a incredible new Ironman marathon PR of 2:51 and an overall 8:22 time.…

The always simple FE Nutrition report:

Morning Breakfast: Toast with PB and J.  Coffee.  Ensure meal replacement.

Sipped on Ultragen (200 calories) for the couple hours before the start.

45min before race start:

A large 150 calorie swig of liquid shot followed by some water

On the bike:

2 x 200 calories of EFS Drink – drank it all (24oz bottle and a 20oz bottle)

1 x 400 calories of EFS liquid shot watered down in a 20oz bottle  - drank about 3/4 of…

Oceanside 70.3 Nutrition Report

I'm going to keep this simple and sweet, 'cause that's exactly how my nutrition for Half Ironman events is now that I've been using First Endurance for a full year.  I had a great race in Oceanside against a very competitive field and managed to finish the day strong with a PB run split of 1:16:06.  Signs…

Ibuprofen during endurance activity

Sorry if this question has already been asked somewhere else in the forum.  Just got to thinking of this after reading your latest news letter on Caffein and Aspirin.   I'm getting mixed reviews on Ibuprofen - some say it's really hard on your kidneys to use it WHILE exercising.  Yet, many athletes seem to pop the stuff fairly regularly.  Have you seen any research on that? Thanks,TWSee More

Ironman Canada Nutrition Report

After a respectable day out an Ironman Canada 2010, here's a quick recap of what went down the hatch. This race is always hot, so I had that plan dialed in...complete with sodium loading the day before. Well, they started calling for cooler weather so we (Heather and I) backed off the sodium loading, but stuck with our normal race plan for calories and hydration. It actually ended up being REALLY damn cold...but it all worked out pretty good. No stomach issues, just one slight crack in the last…See More
