Just wondering if anyone knows the osmolality of the EFS drink?? Also, what happens to that number if you concentrate the formula?? I'm experimenting with different ways to pack less on the bike, but…

So, as a tune up for IM Coeur D'Alene I decided to do the Shawnigan Lake Half Iron, part of the West Coast Suburu Series. The race takes place in a beautiful place just outside Victoria BC, Canada. From the start, this race was creating obstacles...…

Robert....you going to CDA again this year??

Hi Linda and Jon.....last year the water temp was cool, but certainly not cold; if anything, I would say it was the perfect temp for racing. However, in 2008 it was extremely cold (booties and cap were a necessity), they even set up a heat tent for…

This past Easter weekend seemd like a great opportunity to head out to the Okanagan for a spring camp. If any of you have been to the "sunny" Okanagan, you know how great there weather can be. I'd like to say the reputation of hot sun was upheld; ho…

Greg......I haven't raced Wisc or Placid, but I did CDA last year. The bike course is fairly technical, lots of 90 degree turns. The hills on the course are not huge, but they can where you down after a while cause there's lots of them......short(1k…

My second 3 days of GF complete, and the findings did change somewhat from the first 3 days GF. That said, during the first 3 days GF I was training normally, the only change I made was in my diet. Since I sprain my ankle, not much in my life would…

Hey Sonja.....great report!! I go back on the second 3 day GF diet tomorrow. Hope I don't have the GI problems you were having. I guess you won't be going GF for IMCDA, good to learn that now!!

Wow. Once you're past the first 48-72hrs, putting your foot in a hot tub and doing some gentle active movement will keep it from stiffening up and bring new blood flow into the area. Keep icing after you've been on your feet for any length of time a…

Thanks for the tips, just picked up some arnica. My ankle is finally started to bruise and the swelling is starting to come down......not fast enough.
January 10
Ibuprophen or arnica may help control the inflammation. You can also use an ace bandage for compression and support.

Shawnigan Lake Half Iron

So, as a tune up for IM Coeur D'Alene I decided to do the Shawnigan Lake Half Iron, part of the West Coast Suburu Series. The race takes place in a beautiful place just outside Victoria BC, Canada. From the start, this race was creating obstacles......first, when I went to check my bike in the day before the race, the bike mechanic on site blew my rear tube filling it with air (I was travelling by air, so I had no pump). So, once this was dealt with, I went for a short swim........the water f

Spring Training Camp

This past Easter weekend seemd like a great opportunity to head out to the Okanagan for a spring camp. If any of you have been to the "sunny" Okanagan, you know how great there weather can be. I'd like to say the reputation of hot sun was upheld; however......it just wasn't so!! First day forcast was for rain, wet snow and a high of 4 degrees celcius. With the wind chill, it was minus 15 celcius and snowing like crazy.......lets just say the 100KM plus day was more about character building th

GF Test Results

My second 3 days of GF complete, and the findings did change somewhat from the first 3 days GF. That said, during the first 3 days GF I was training normally, the only change I made was in my diet. Since I sprain my ankle, not much in my life would fall into the normal category.....limited to no training, a lot of sleepless nights, and going GF again?? So, my results may not be the same as what I would have encountered if I had been healthy??
So, although my results may have been comprimised, th… Continue
