A Tale of Five Electrolytes

by Jeff Rocco MD

If you are reading this you are probably an endurance athlete looking to improve your training and performance. You may recall from high school science class that electrolytes are dissolved mineral salts contained in our body fluid–both inside and outside our cells. It is not our focus here to review in depth all of the cellular biology related to electrolyte homeostasis. The enlightened athlete needs to know where electrolytes go when they are lost, what the symptoms are when… Continue

Hey Robert - your sodium loading protocol worked! No cramping in my last race! The race prior I forgot to add extra sodium to my during race drink, and I think that made a difference. I can't taste my food with all that sodium, but it's worth it to not be in pain! Thanks so much!!

Thanks for putting me on the feature!!! I really appreciate that!!! The more exposure the better... I' am working on my ideas for the team page and will be getting to that and my nutrition/race report from Rage here shortly. I have also decided to go with two of the guys from the newly formed Team FEE to race 'the worlds toughest half' in auburn, ca. coming up here at the end of may just before IM CDA... I am going to go for a run at Steve Larsens bike course record ;)

Let me know what you think we can do to my page to make it better... AJ is on the team and has one other outstanding athlete to bring aboard from the Salt Lake area. This is going to be very good for the team!!!!

5 guys will be down racing in St. George this weekend, we will get some pic's and a group shot with everyone for the team page. Sweet!!!

Ride On!

Great clinic last night. I was really impressed with the information and how the entire fuel system fits together. Talked to several people after and all thought they learned a ton and appreciate the science behind your products. Great job!

Hey there. Just did NO 70.3 Luckily, stomach was good. On the bad side, melted down in the heat. Dizzy for the entire run. Needed 2 bags of fluid after the race.

Thanks for your info on sodium loading, Robert! I haven't had a chance to try it yet, as I'm in taper mode for my first race. I'll try it for a hard training session when our weather gets warmer here. Another snow storm today - uggg! Looking forward to testing out the protocol and I'll for sure let you know how it goes. Thanks for your concern!
Cheers!

Robert,
Thanks for the words of encouragement on my page. I like this new site idea and I really feel that you will see some great anecdotal info to add to the science and expanding peoples ideas of sports nutrition. I'll keep checking back to see what else I can add as I have time.
Peace Out
Ryan
