Brandon, there seems to be a big variance among athletes in terms of appropriate dose for PreRace. We also throw caution that as you use large doses, you also increase your chance of gastric distress. Our general recommendation is no more than two s…

Robert and Team,I got the following question from one of my athletes:I am still playing with the Pre-race mix in all my water bottles, for the long stuff (3+ hours).  To the tune of 1/2 scoop or less of EFS mix with 1/2 scoop or less of pre-race in…

I guess you could call it a First Endurance 'fix'. I'm waiting on the bars to be available! Amy and I will usually eat one before an early morning workout or during a long ride, and we are down to our last few! Anyhoo, I'm glad to be officially on…

I know that I commented on the head ache on another post. If it went away in a few days while eating wheat/gluten, I bet it takes a bit longer to go away than 7 days. I don't notice too much of a difference between the two, but there is a definite…

I had a low grade headache for awhile when we went GF, but it went away. Also, I had to eat a lot more fat since I haven't been constantly eating. Some olive oil, but even butter and coconut oil for stir frys. I also add a bit of coconut milk to som…

I think that tahini would be good every so often, but I think that sesame seeds are really high in Omega-6 fats, so depending on what you think of those, you might want to limit it a bit. Omega-3s are more anti-inflammatory, and Omega-6 are more inf…

Jim, I think that if you check out some of the race reports, you'll find that a lot of us just go ahead and take the multi-V whenever we eat our breakfast. For me that ends up being anywhere from 2-3 hours before an event depending on the length. I…

Matt, I think that Robert has posted before that all of the FE products are gluten free. The EFS prototype is great too! -Brandon

I had a weird calf cramp at the Hulaman Tri in August after 'never' having one before. For me, I think that it was wearing a wetsuit after a long lay off of not swimming in one. I also think that calf cramps in the swim can result if someone is cons…

I don't know that osmolality is 'really' that important. Several studies have shown, and there are links on the FE site, that using a varied mix of carbohydrate sources in sports drinks can enhance the absoption or at least utilization. EFS and EFS…

Re...gluten/wheat free. That was pretty much our only splurge. We're back at it, and it usually goes for months at a time. Maybe the next time, we'll seek out a GF pizza crust!!

That bike did have some incredibly bumpy parts! I remember feeling pretty beat up, and my boyfriend's aerobars even came loose! I wouldn't be surprised if you experienced dehydration. Cramping is usually a good sign. I probably took in 3L of fluids…

Pretty quick here. I was the 9th pro at Ironman Wisconsin in 9:14:41. If you are looking for a 'fun' Ironman, this one is a must do. The course is good and the crowd support is awesome. The only 'drawback' to the course is the road surface on part o…

Honestly, I wouldn't worry too much about the fat content of your diet if it's based around good fats. Of course a lot of it depends on whether or not you are in the moderate or low fat camp when it comes to diets. What would you replace the nuts an…

Needing a 'Fix'

I guess you could call it a First Endurance 'fix'. I'm waiting on the bars to be available! Amy and I will usually eat one before an early morning workout or during a long ride, and we are down to our last few!

Anyhoo, I'm glad to be officially on the team this year after using FE products for several years now.

I have a blog post on Brandonmarsh.com that should be up this evening about the FE products that I/we use. It's pretty much al… Continue

IM Wisconsin Report w/ Nutrition

Pretty quick here. I was the 9th pro at Ironman Wisconsin in 9:14:41. If you are looking for a 'fun' Ironman, this one is a must do. The course is good and the crowd support is awesome. The only 'drawback' to the course is the road surface on part of the bike...more on that later.

The days leading up to the race were pretty standard with safe foods. Saturday was a big lunch of pancakes and eggs. Dinner was pretty standard grilled chicken and roasted sweet potatoes with a little bit of steamed b… Continue

HulaMan Triathlon Race Report

I posted a race report, sans nutrition, on the blog here. But, if anyone is in the Portland or general PNW area, hopefully the race will go again next year as it was a really fun time.

At the risk of sounding very much like my other posts here...this is a nutritional report. I went into this race with an off day Friday and about 2 hours of easy training on Saturday, so no real rest at all. I have been taking Optygen and the Multi-V since… Continue

70.3 Kansas Race Report/Nutritional Report

Pretty much a lather, rinse, repeat of Florida...

6th overall in the men's pro-field.

Friday:
Dinner was chicken curry w/ white rice at a local Lawrence Thai restaurant.

Saturday:
- Breakfast was ~1 cup of dry oats (cooked) w/ almond butter and 1 scoop whey protein powder.
- We did about 90 minutes of loosen up workouts that day, and there was an EFS bar somewhere in there.
- Lunch was about 4 eggs with a couple of servings of gluten free pancakes w/ Grade B maple syrup.
- Snacks were apple w… Continue

Brandon,
Welcome to our new site. We highly welcome your extensive experience and also hope you can gain something from the nutrition programs we are testing. I'll be down at J&A over memorial day week and have a talk/ride scheduled with the shop. Would love to get a chance to meet you face to face.
