Interesting day in Canada. Just read Trevor Wurtele's nutrition report. I hit that same bump with 30k to go on the bike - but survived. I think the cold weather changed the way my nutrition went vs. the planned heat. I made the unconscious mistake of not eating for the last 90 minutes of the bike due to the cold - paid for it later. I peed twice on the bike and 3 times on the run - strange. Never cramped. Used a ton of EFS LS - 1000 on the bike and 200 on the run mixed with some other stuff and 200 EFS drink on the bike. Strange day with the freezing conditions on the descent into T2. Ended up going 10:00:05 on the day - but no Kona slot. Crazy. I think the cool weather helped make for a fast run day. Still trying to figure out where I could have grabbed 6 more minutes. Oh well - fun event.

I'm pumped! Really looking forward to spending time in Penticton - love the people there. Look for us - my wife, me and 2 of her friend will all be sporting Canyon Bicycles kits with First Endurance logoing on the back. They are in pink and green, mine is red/whit/blue.
Good luck to all racing.

The schedule leading to IM Canada has been planned. Along with a few local races to stay sharp, I'll be racing at the St. Croix and Boise 70.3's. I've delayed my training start date for the first time in 14 years so that I can peak for Canada in hope of qualifying for Kona. My goal is to improve on last year's swim 1:05 to 1:00, ride a very similar 5:03 bike and drastically improve my "run" from the 3:58 to the 3:30 range. I've hired a coach to help with my swim and run technique, only gained 7 lbs over the winter months - so hope my goals are realistic. Good luck to everyone else targeting Canada.

Yup thats the one. I have heard they put on a great event, plus I need to get a slot for IMC.. Would like to do both but I will let the finaces decide for me...

Matt, are you doing the Persona Oliver Half Iron in June? I've never done that one - but I know the race directors; Joe and Sarah Dixon put on an awesome event. I usually do their Osyoos Half Iron in July because I like that it climbs up Richter Pass.

I am not one to say no to good tips! I am located in Spokane so I hope to get up there at least once to ride the course and will be racing on part of course in June.

I love this race (I grew up in Vernon - at the north end of Okanagan Lake) and I am stoked to be competing in it again this year. I know the area well if anyone wants some good tips on training rides etc.
