1 1/2 tsp of salt in a water bottle is not easy to do less than 1 hour before a work out. I didn't throw up like I thought I would, but you might want to have indoor plumbing handy.
I liked protocol #2, which wasn't that far off from what I might normally do. The extra sodium I believe did cause a gastrocolic reflex, which meant an urgent emptying of the colon. I experienced this with both protocols. This may actually be a benefit before a race.
I have spoken with four separate individuals who have now tried the sodium loading protocol. All four individuals suffered cramping episodes in their longer workouts and all four claimed great success using the sodium loading protocol. Though its certainly too early to tell, the anectodal evidence to date seems to be quite positive.
Robert, have you ever heard of Himalayan Salt? I get into Dr Mercola's site occaisionally and he had a post about the prob with the general table salt most use. http://products.mercola.com/himalayan-salt/ He talks about the effects of the sodium chloride and disruption in fluid balance trying to deal with it. Anyway, not trying to spam with Mercola's stuff, just there is always some other person out there studying something. Chris
